Indy Senior Portrait Photography: Lonna

Having lived away from Indiana for such a long time, I forgot how gorgeous (and photogenic!) it gets in the fall.  When I went to America to visit my family this October, of course I thought I’d do a bit of work while I was home. I shot Lonna’s senior portrait pictures in the gorgeous White River Canal Park in downtown Indianapolis and tried to give a few of them a bit of editorial fashion-magazine feel by by undexposing and using the flash to overpower the ambient light, of which you can see an example above.   Other than that we were lucky to have a gorgeous fall day and nice early morning light when Lonna and her mum braved the elements to meet me in the cold but wonderfully lit early hours of the morning for our senior portrait session.

(UK readers might be asking, what are “senior pictures”?  It’s a tradition among American teenagers to have a nice photo session done in the summer before or during the autumn of their last year of secondary year; usually the pictures include some that showcase the teen’s special skills or hobbies – like in Lonna’s case, skateboarding.  When I was in high school everyone used to trade and collect one another’s prints – but of course that tells you how awfully OLD I must be, having gone to high school in pre-social media days…
